I Watch Advertisements for Fun

Yes, you have read that correctly I do in fact watch advertisements for fun. When watching television programs or streamed videos I actually enjoy watching ads for entertainment. Seeing these advertisements I critique the message a company is trying to portray while also highlighting what I enjoyed about it. My viewpoint on these advertisements are often opinion based, but sometimes factual and based on what I have learned throughout my collegiate career.

5 things I like in ads:
  1. Entertaining but the message still shines through
  2. Aren't too repetitive
  3. Engaging visuals versus throwing numbers on the screen
  4. Are between 15-30 seconds
    1. The only time I think it needs to be longer is when the message can't be communicated in that period of time
  5. Are consistent
5 things I dislike:
  1. Over saturation
  2. No relevance to product or service
  3. Plot twists that don't make any sense
  4. Boring, and doesn't catch attention
  5. Overwhelming, as in too much information being presented at once
So yes, I do critique advertisements in my spare time (is this a job somewhere?) and I also do this with things I see everywhere which I may expand on in a different post. When I see  commercials I actually consider buying products, and can often be an impulse buyer after being influenced by advertisements. For example, a few days ago, I knew that I needed a facial brush and I saw an Instagram video advertising one and off impulse I just purchased it. While in other circumstances I will get all the way to check out and just close out of sites.  My consumer behavior activities are all over the place, but are heavily influenced by advertisements around me.
